How to overcome the first day of school

No matter what age you are—middle school, high school, college, or university—the first day of school is always the most challenging. You have to figure out where your classes are, and you have to try to appear social when all you want to do is hide your face in a book and hope nobody talks to you.

What always helps me is making it feel like a video game. When you’re getting lost and nobody is around to help you, just pretend it’s a scavenger hunt. Find that music class, and the winner gets a ukulele! (I’ve always enjoyed playing the ukulele on Planet Exaliate. They have the most beautiful instruments. You should visit there sometime!)

What’s most challenging is getting along with other classmates. I’ve been to so many places during my time travels, and there are planets where everyone gets along—no fighting, no bullying, just peace and happiness! Unfortunately, Earth doesn’t have that. The important thing to remember is that if people are mean to you, it’s really just because they’re mad or sad about something going on in their own lives. They feel like they have to make others feel bad in order to have a little bit of control over their own lives. So remember, it’s never about you or anything you’re doing! Keep being you!

Meeting new friends is always fun! You never know what common interests you’ll discover. Don’t be afraid to say hi to someone. Even asking how someone is doing can mean a lot to them, especially if they’re feeling lonely. It’s amazing how something small can make someone feel seen and valued.

Remember to stay positive. If you always focus on the negative, you’ll always have a bad day. It’s easy to say, “I lost my pen,” “I stepped in dog poo,” or “I spilled coffee on my shirt” (that one happened to me once, and yes, there were tears!). But above all the bad things… you’re still healthy. You still have your whole life ahead of you. You’re entering school to get an amazing job doing something you love! There’s so much beauty in the world; it’s important to really notice those things!

Focus on learning new things, not just on the grades. I still take online courses daily because I truly enjoy learning about things throughout the multiverse! Take courses you really want to learn about. Have fun learning new things—even if it’s for subjects you’re not particularly interested in. Enjoy learning about what makes Earth what it is and what makes humans the way they are. I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about all the things I have yet to learn about humans on Earth!

The most important lesson of all: Be kind to your teachers and professors! Don’t make their jobs harder than they already are. They’re really awesome people doing a great thing in the world. They’re humans just like you, and sometimes they will also have bad days and might be a little grumpy. Again, it’s not about you. Try not to take it personally. It’s about things going on in their life. Maybe they had many students giving them attitude. Maybe their bosses are not happy with them. Please be kind to them and make their day a little easier!

Until next time, my loves!
