Goodness me! I can’t even begin to tell you how much I blushed when BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim wore that cute dress at the Billboard Women in Music ceremony.
It’s amazing what you can learn about someone’s personality just by the clothes they wear. As for me, I love bright-colored clothes. Everything I own is in all the colors of the rainbow: bright red, bright blue, bright orange. I often look like a pack of Skittles.
I prefer wearing clothes that are loose and comfortable. It means I love to stand out. I don’t follow social norms like jeans and plain white or gray tops. People can spot me from miles away. I am unapologetically myself, and I have no regrets.
What I loved about Jennie’s dress is that it had both a professional look and was also super cute. You can tell she’s a businesswoman, but she isn’t afraid to be herself and feel comfortable in her own skin. It’s the perfect combination of feeling beautiful, looking good, and letting people know, “Hey, I’m a serious businesswoman!”
I aspire to be as confident as Jennie. She’s a young woman who commands the room she enters—an absolute force to be reckoned with. She may look small and cute, but inside, she’s like a lion, ready to take on the world with her incredibly powerful vocals. She’s always putting in the work, both on stage and off stage.
What I love most about her is how appreciative and humble she is. She was just happy to be at the event and recognized for her contributions to the music industry as well as the world in general. She’s inspired people everywhere to start dancing like her! If that isn’t the definition of a great role model, I don’t know what is.
As someone who struggles with confidence, my clothes always do the talking for me. They let people know who I am and what I’m feeling. Many times, we don’t think about what we wear; we just quickly throw something on and go to work. But fashion defines us at our very core. Isn’t that wild to think about? Who would have known a piece of fabric could be so powerful in bringing out our inner personality? So, it’s important to choose wisely what you decide to wear. It will leave people with a lasting impression—good or bad!
Last week, I accidentally spilled coffee on my dress, and in moments like that, I wish I had Spider-Man’s powers! The moral of this story is to take good care of your clothes because they always take care of you! They protect you from vulnerability and help us feel better about the bad days we’ve had—or even amplify our already good vibes!
Jennie has shown us what it means to be confident in ourselves. We are all a little insecure on the inside, but the important thing is that we gather the courage to embrace who we are and not let negative people take away our smiles!
Until next time, my loves,
-Dizzy
